Conservancy - Bush in Winter

Removed part of the log behind the bush. It just didn't work, too big? too dark? too flat? The space reads deeper without it.

Conservancy - Bush in Winter

I spent most of this session trying to add some light to the atmosphere and a bit of small branch work in the foreground.

Lola and Margaux walk Minkcove with Wayne

Lola is graduating from college. Her mother, Kathy, is Wayne's step-niece. Is there such a thing? Regardless, they and sister, Margaux, are family. Lola and Margaux were born in France and amuse me at times with their English. They both refer to Minkcove as the swamp. I keep telling them it is not a swamp. It is an estuary. Much more romantic, don't you think? Kathy's only advice regarding a graduation gift was, "she likes art". My plan is to give her a memento of a day she, Margaux, and Wayne spent exploring the swamp/estuary. Wash

Distractions

I've had distractions from The Conservancy piece. I'm decorating a birdhouse for a charity auction to raise money for the local Boys' and Girls' Club. I also am painting a landscape as a graduation present. More about that tomorrow.

Conservancy - Bush in Winter

My in-house critic thinks the far ground is too vague. He wants some details or punch of some sort. Not sure I agree. Coincidentally, today I was ready to add some low brush texture, which I think may address the critique.

Conservancy/ Bush in Winter

For the last 2 months I've been in Europe filling my eyes and brain with amazing art from the medieval marvels of the Thyssen in Madrid, to The Last Supper in Milan and The Night Watch in Amsterdam. It's a humbling experience to see such pieces and then return to the studio. But return I have. The last two days I've worked on the bush in winter adding light and shadow to the snow. The bush itself is roughed in, too. I'm trying some complementary color to pop the bush.
